Today’s devotion deals with true prosperity.

The Bible gives us a powerful principle: seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

When you cannot see light at the end of your financial tunnel, seek first the Kingdom of God. When you cannot give to God the way you desire, seek first His Kingdom.

The lesson of Solomon

When Solomon had the opportunity to ask God for something, he asked for wisdom instead of riches. He could have asked for long life, wealth or victory over his enemies. His request revealed his priorities, and the Bible tells us that it pleased the Lord.

God gave Solomon what he asked for, and then added what he had not asked for: wealth and honor. Solomon put God’s purposes ahead of his own personal desires.

The principle is the Kingdom

There are things we sometimes struggle to obtain through our own strength. But our focus should not simply be running after material things. Our focus should be obedience to God.

God is looking for people who will walk with Him in covenant relationship and put His Kingdom and His purposes ahead of selfish desires.

What is prosperity?

Prosperity is not simply the accumulation of wealth or material things: expensive cars, luxury homes or designer clothes. Those may be the world’s visible symbols of prosperity, but they are not the whole picture of a prosperous life.

True prosperity is God’s blessing upon the whole person. It includes the spiritual and the temporal. It is God’s provision and continual supply for what He has called you to do.
